2011 was a pretty great year for music. To sum up the words of Cosmo Baker, it’s disappointing to hear people say that nobody makes good music anymore. Sure, bad music exists, or maybe it’s music that just doesn’t appeal to you. But all it takes is a little effort to sift through the debris and find something you can really get into. Don’t cheat yourself the opportunity to experience the great producers currently out there.

That being said, here are my personal favourites from 2011. I probably could have picked a schit-load more, but I decided to keep it short and sweet. Check the rest of my chart mixes from the past year to hear “the best of the rest”.

☃ Edwin van Cleef has become a tastemaker of choice; snapping at the heels of The Magician and Aeroplane, thanks to the online success of his monthly mix charts. His remix work includes Chilly Gonzales, Grum, Mighty Mouse, The Futureheads, and Kitsuné’s very own Housse De Racket.
The title track of the Never Be Alone At Night EP features vocals from Chicago band Gemini Club. Remixes include the legendary Mighty Mouse, Pharao Black Magic and RAC’s Blue Satellite. Much loved on the blogs, it’s also scoring high marks with DJs: Stuart Price, Scissor Sisters, and The Aston Shuffle (Australia’s Triple J Radio).

☃ SLEEPER – The love child of a com­poser and radio head, Sleeper was raised by instru­ments and gyp­sies. Grow­ing up in Wash­ing­ton DC, he lis­tened to mom on the radio by day and fell asleep to dad giv­ing vio­lin lessons by night.
Com­ing from a long gen­er­a­tion of musi­cians, there isn’t a music mak­ing device he hasn’t played or bro­ken. When a turntable found him fresh­man year at Indi­ana Uni­ver­sity, Sleeper was born.
He imme­di­ately dived into radio and the DJ bat­tle cir­cuit. Sleeper started two shows on local and col­lege air­waves then bat­tled his way up to one of the Top 8 DJs on the planet in the 2006 World Series Turntable Championship.
Now based in Los Ange­les, his music has been fea­tured on ESPN, MTV, URB, The Miami Her­ald, and Scratch mag­a­zine. Stretch­ing across gen­res, gen­er­a­tions and styles, his abil­ity to remix live while incor­po­rat­ing turntab­lism into his blends cre­ates a sound that is dis­tinctly his own. Sleeper’s Michael Jack­son remix stayed at #1 on both Hype Machine charts for more than a month and made it to Zeitgest’s Best Songs of 2009.

So a few of you might remember awhile back that I introduced myself as KonfliKt. Schit has changed in the last couple weeks, and I’m moving forward with ‘Nick Bike’. If you ever see me on the street, you can ask me about it all then
